A provincial town, LINFEN is not unpleasant, though there's no point in hanging around. The town's few taxis (¥5 minimum fare) congregate around the train station, in the west of town. The bus station, for connections to Hongdong and Hukou Falls, is on the other side of town.

 

Accommodation is available at the Pingyang Hotel, at 6 Jiefang Nan Lu (tel 0357/214844; ¥30-500), which has rooms ranging from very basic to plush. The dining hall of the hotel, which serves reasonable food , is getting on for the size of an aircraft hangar, with round tables big enough to park a car on. In the centre of the city, the comfortable Greenland Hotel (tel 0357/2088168; ¥150-200) has a helpful travel service from where you can book tickets.
