YUNCHENG , about 100km south of Linfen, is the last major town before Xi'an on the train line south from Datong. It's another possible base from which to visit the Hukou Falls and also the starting point for bus trips west and south to the Guan Yu Miao, Ruicheng and the Yongle Gong. The train station , with a statue of Guan Yu outside glaring at the townspeople, is in the northwest of town, at the north end of Zhan Nan Lu, while the bus station is a little farther south on the western side of the same road. Walk east from the station concourse to the end of Zhan Dong Lu and you'll come to the Huanghe Hotel (tel 0359/2023135; dorms up to ¥30, rooms ¥100-150), a friendly place with a wide range of rooms and a decent restaurant. Tour groups end up at the Yuncheng Grand Hotel (tel 0359/2024481; ¥200-300), which has a small CITS office.
